Because I would like to teach elementary school, I chose a standard for third grade. Standard LAFS.3.W.2.6 essentially says that students will be able to write and work with others by using technology and the help of an adult. I believe that I would be prepared to introduce this standard to a class based on my own skills with technology. I think it would mostly consist of teaching students how to use the keyboard to type and other simple actions such as how to save their work, and how share it with others.
One of the resources on CPALMS that caught my attention was the Protect the Turtles: Solve Two-Step Word Problems. This resource helps students work through two-step word problems by creating problems relating to sea turtles and their survival. Students are encouraged to draw pictures or use counters to solve the problems by grouping, and learn how the groups can be used in multiplication, division, and subtraction. Students are also furthering their reading skills by identifying key words in the problems. I think this would be a great tool for any class, but especially for classes that are in Florida, as sea turtles are an animal that most students here would recognize and have understanding of, and it is also a great way to raise awareness for the protection of sea turtles.
With how evolved technology is today, I believe that being proficient at Internet searching is essential as a teacher. Technology is involved in pretty much everything now, so to not use it to your advantage would be a disservice to you and your students. The Internet can provide endless resources for teachers and students. I think that after this week I will begin using the advanced search option on Google when I am researching things. I was not aware that this was even an option until this week and I think it would be really helpful for when I am doing research for school, and definitely in my future career.
